Asbestos was commonly used as it has good tensile strength qualities and it may be found in roof tiles. Technically all forms (including white) are ultimately pernicious and can lead to lung cancer following prolonged exposure. If found, care should be taken however, never to disturb it and professional advice must be taken as soon as possible.
