Should we book a RICS Level 2 Survey, Full Structural Survey or RICS Level 3 Survey for a property in Reigate and which one is cheaper?

Asbestos roof tiles

A builder friend noted there may be loose blue asbestos soffit boards being found in the building. Why would there be asbestos and can it be treated?

Asbestos is a carcinogenic fibrous substance. There are over 60 types, 6 of which were used in the UK and may be in building materials for example cement sheet. Its use is widespread, for example - as it has good tensile strength properties, it may be found in cement. Technically all forms including Chrysotile are ultimately hazardous and can lead to lung cancer or pleural disease if inhaled over sustained periods. Finding asbestos does not necessarily constitute a risk to health.

If found, care should be taken not to remove it and professional advice should be sought ASAP. On no account try to disturb it yourself.
